Think “videographer” and you probably imagine someone running around with a camera, chasing light and dodging tripods.
Fair.
But behind every sharp frame, smooth cut, and polished brand video is a creative grind you don’t always see.
So here’s a peek inside what a shoot day looks like at Nick Addison Photography—a Melbourne-based team of three creatives who do it all: shoot, direct, edit, deliver.
6:00AM – Gear Load & Location Prep
Most of our shoots start early. Why? Because light waits for no one—and neither does traffic.
We prep the night before, double-check batteries, and run through shot lists. On-site by sunrise means we can scout locations, check angles, and sort any last-minute surprises before the client arrives.
And yes, coffee is involved. Non-negotiable.
8:00AM – The Shoot Begins
This is the main event.
Whether it’s a corporate video, brand campaign, or drone shoot, we split roles between our 3-person crew:
- One on main camera and framing
- One handling lighting, rigging, or drone setup
- One directing the client or talent, keeping the shoot tight and comfortable
We keep it lean, sharp, and fully dialed in—no wasted motion, no confusion. Just focused work, captured with clarity.
12:30PM – Lunch (But Also Notes, Edits & Sneak Peeks)
Halfway through a shoot, we review clips, note what’s working, and tweak setups.
Sometimes we even rough-cut on the fly so clients can preview a frame or two.
It’s also when we have “that shot” moment—where everyone looks at each other and goes yep, that’s the one.
2:00PM – The Magic Hour Grind
Late afternoon is when the light starts doing things no LUT ever could.
We get creative—slow-mo shots, movement passes, hero shots, aerial flyovers.
This is also when we test alternate angles for multiple deliverables from the same shoot.
Smart brands ask for vertical cuts, social snippets, and website banners. We plan for that from the jump.
5:00PM – Wrap + Transfer
Once we’re packed up, the work is just beginning.
Files are backed up twice. Shot logs are updated. Notes are shared.
Then it’s off to the edit bay—where hours of footage get sharpened, synced, colour-graded, and turned into something worth pressing “play” on.
Why This Matters to You
We’re not some bloated agency with 12 account managers and a booking system from 2014.
We’re a hands-on creative team—tight-knit, experienced, and fully involved from day one.
If you’re after visuals that actually reflect your brand—not just another templated cut—we’re the team behind the lens making that happen.
